What
did the chained men in the cave allegory of Plato see when they
looked at the shadows on the wall? Did they see pictures of the
world or were they faced with reflections of their own imagination?
What is the difference between those two? The book takes this relationship
between image and mind as a starting point and observes it from
several points of view. It looks at an archive of images used for
brain research. This archive is collection of images that have been
tested in relation to their effect on the viewer. Probants of different
age in different countries were faced with those pictures and their
physical reactions when looking at them were almost equal. On the
other hand artists from different backgrounds have been asked to
describe their process of making, from the first sketch to the finalized
work.
What is the link between image perception and production? And looking
closer to it: There seems to be an inexplicable gap in this connection
that remains unexplored and open no matter how one looks at it,
a gap that might provide a key to the way we view the world and
its images...
